Getting a PAN card has become an easy task with the online facility launched by the income tax department. If companies and individuals wish to engage in any kind of financial transaction, they must have a Permanent Account Number which is actually a ten-digit alpha-numeric number mentioned on the PAN card. A pan application form must be filled and submitted along with a processing fee and documents for verification. Apart from availing a new PAN card, the same online facility lets PAN holders to apply for any additions or corrections like change in birth date in their existing PAN cards.

The applicants can either submit the form directly after filling the relevant details or they can download the form, fill it and submit it at the nearest TIN Facilitation Center (TIN-FC).

Submission of proofs

The date of birth of an individual should be written correctly and must be supported with relevant proofs such as birth certificate issued by a municipal authority, Aadhaar Card, Matriculation certificate, Photo ID card which is issued by the government, Voters ID card with complete date of birth details, etc. In addition to the above documents for DOB proof, the applicants will be required to submit other necessary documents as proofs. They include relevant ID proof like Passport, Driving License, Aadhaar Card, etc. and Address proof such as Aadhaar Card, Voters ID card, copy of recent electricity or bill, property registration document, etc.

Procedure for corrections in Date of Birth in PAN card

• Step 1: PAN holders who wish to make changes in their PAN details must, first of all, download the online pan application form for correction. Care must be taken while selecting as there two forms namely Form 49A for applicants who are Indian Citizens and Indian companies within India and Form 49AA for entities and individuals residing outside India.

• Step 2: In case of changes in date of birth, the applicants must provide the correct details in the allotted space. Along with this, other details must also be provided, as requested. They must adhere to the do’s and don’t’s mentioned in the instructions and should avoid any overwriting in the document or use of staple pins on the photograph.

• Step 3: The form should be duly signed after filling in the details. Applicants must ensure to sign only in the designated box and avoid giving unwanted information.

• Step 4: As mentioned above, supporting documents for proof of Date of Birth must be provided.

• Step 5: A processing fee, ranging from Rs 107 to Rs 120 (all inclusive) for Indians and around Rs 1,040 for residing outside India, must be paid. The forms can be submitted at Alankit office from where they are forwarded to the National Securities Depository Limited, PAN Department.

Procedure after submitting PAN application

Finally, after the successful submission of pan card change form, an acknowledgment slip is mailed to the applicants.
