What documents required for Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration

Documents for GST registration

A business entity registering under the GST law will be required to obtain a unique number from the concerned tax authorities for collection of tax on behalf of the government and avail Input Tax Credit for the taxes on their inward supplies. The process for GST registration starts with duly filling and submitting an application form. After verifying themselves as taxpayer or GST practitioner, applicants must furnish important details and vital documents for verification. After initiating the registration process, applicants must furnish the following documents:

  • PAN Card of the business and applicant: The Permanent Account Number (PAN) of the business and authorised signatories/ applicant (viz. Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor) should be furnished during the registration process.
  • Proof of Identity along with photographs: Documents like Aadhaar card, PAN, driving license, passport, or voters identity card can be provided.
  • Phone Number and Email ID: A valid Indian Phone Number and Email address of the Primary Authorized Signatory
  • Address proof of place of business: The Principal Place of Business is the primary location within the state where the business is performed, where the business's books of accounts and records are kept. Proof must be provided for every additional place of business in the state.
    • Any document as proof of ownership of the premises viz. Latest Property Tax Receipt or Municipal Khata copy or copy of Electricity Bill.
    • Copy of valid Rent / Lease Agreement/Consent letter (as applicable).
  • Valid bank account number from India: The details of bank accounts maintained for conducting business must be provided. Applicants can provide up to 10 bank accounts and must fill the Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) number of the same bank and branch.

Other details to be provided

While registering through the gst services provider, the following details must also be furnished by the applicants:

  • A list of goods & services
  • Proof of appointment of Authorized Signatory (Letter of Authorization or copy of board resolution)
  • The Authorized Signatories photo (soft copy)
  • In case of Companies and LLPs, Class 2 digital signature of the person who is authorised to sign the GST application must be provided
  • Incorporation certificate of the Company
  • Regulatory registration details like Professional Tax, State Excise License details (If applicable)
